Chicago magazine is looking for an Associate Digital Editor to write and edit for its award-winning website and other digital efforts. We are looking for someone who can report and write stories (including, but not limited to, news analysis, features, explainers, columns, and non-text story formats) and have a strong social media voice to broadcast Chicago magazine’s award-winning journalism to an ever-larger audience.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled writer and reporter who loves Chicago and loves the internet—and sees the vast potential in both. You will have freedom to pursue impactful, insightful stories that illuminate what it means to live in the Chicago area—focusing on our major topic areas of politics, culture, and dining, and beyond. You will also spearhead our social media efforts on Facebook and Twitter, and work with other digital team members to grow our audience.
Experience with multimedia (video, audio, interactive, etc.) is not required, but preferred. Understanding of the internet, social media, and what kind of news people need in a digital world is essential.
We have very high editorial standards, and we expect your work to match our tone and brand. We care about our audience size, but quality comes first. We don’t chase cheap views or memes, and we won’t ask you to, either.
Submit a resume, three writing samples that reflect the type of work you would like to do at Chicagomag.com, and three pitches tailored to our website, to Bettina Chang at email@example.com.
