Yesterday, the Dearborn Garden Association hosted its 52nd annual Dearborn Garden Walk. I braved the July heat to take the self-guided walking tour, which allowed access to some 20 blissfully shady Gold Coast gardens, seven of which were outfitted with vignettes inspired by celluloid hits like Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Under the Tuscan Sun. The cinematic vignettes were fun and imaginative: Howard and Anne Stolar of Carol Wolk Interiors’ Sunset Boulevard-inspired scene channeled the vibe of the noir film with a black-and-white palate, a formally set dining table, and a rolling bar cart stocked with luxe-looking crystal glassware. (This vignette was a little punchy: a doll floated facedown in a basin of water, just like William Holden’s character in the opening of the 1950 film.) Steven Burgert of I.D. and Brenda Hesselberg of Bloom 3 paid homage to Stanley Kubrik’s 2001: A Space Odyssey with lots of Lucite—including Louis XIV ghost chairs that appeared to be sprouting plants—and mod greenery arranged in mirrored vases. And Denise Antonucci and Jerry Sanfilippo of ASI Interiors recalled the romance of The Great Gatsby with heaps of white roses and a moss-covered table set for two with yummy-looking pastries and flutes of champagne.
