Last week I went to a meet-and-greet before a meeting of the local National Kitchen and Bath Association. It was held at Builder’s Cabinet Supply, a bit off the beaten path at 401 N. Western Ave. I was expecting a Home Depot-like space with cheap cabinets stacked to the ceiling. Wrong! Turns out this place is one of the best-kept secrets around-and that I’m not the only one confused about what’s inside. For 25 years, Builder’s Cabinet has been building cabinets (under the Orchard Hill name) of solid wood, reconstituted veneer, and laminate here on Western. Eight months ago, the company closed its Southport Ave. showroom and moved it the first floor of the manufacturing facility, on Western. Bruce Church, director of marketing and design, says Builder’s is the biggest cabinet manufacturer in the city. Because they’re built on site (on the second floor, above the showroom), you can get semi-custom sizes for a stock size price, and delivery takes about four-six weeks (as opposed to eight from, say, Italy). Find tons of door styles from modern to traditional. Design services available.
