ALISON MILLER
37, life coach
Earned Ph.D. in clinical psychology from UIC in 2000. Her business, Life Essentials, hires several independent contractors to keep up with demand.
I trained to become a therapist. Once I was doing therapy, I felt like I was in the right house but in the wrong room. I wanted to work with people more on enhancing the quality of their lives.... I was interested in looking more to the future than dwelling in the past.... I liked the idea of being an entrepreneur.... The more I focus on money, that actually does not help my success. That's what I've learned about this business.
