Five Alternates to the Chicago Marathon

Registration starts today for the Chicago Marathon, and getting in may be as hard as the race itself. If you don’t make the cut this year, here are your backup plans.

On April 14, runners will find out whether they snagged a spot in this fall’s Chicago Marathon, which is using a lottery system for the first time. Not everyone will make the cut.

If you get shut out, follow this flow chart to find one of five solid alternatives within a two-hour drive of the city.
