Aspect Ratio

119 N. Peoria St., 773-206-7354, aspectratioprojects.com
Best new: Ray Bradbury foretold of wall TVs in Fahrenheit 451, but for video artists this reality couldn’t come soon enough. Aspect Ratio is Chicago’s only commercial gallery dedicated to contemporary video art. Opened last fall, the West Loop gallery pursues an ambitious program that brings in works from as far away as Tel Aviv, demonstrating that video as an art form is accessible and can be far more exciting than paintings on a wall. Look for sensually engaging new work by Casilda Sánchez coming September 6.

Corbett vs. Dempsey

Best overall: This internationally prominent gallery not only invests in recent Chicago art (by Molly Zuckerman-Hartung, Cauleen Smith, and other up-and-comers) but also gives solo shows to important mature artists (Philip Hanson, Rebecca Shore) who have influenced today’s creative generation.
