Assistant Art Director

Come join the award-winning, talented team at Chicago magazine. We are currently seeking an Associate Art Director, someone who is a visionary, collaborative and innovative designer with experience in designing for a publication. As an Associate Art Director, you will design features and departmental pages for Chicago magazine. You will also design for digital content for the brand if requested.

  • 4-year degree in Fine Arts required.
  • Minimum 4 years graphic design experience at a publication
  • Superior computer graphic skills in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator. 
  • Expertise in Dreamweaver, HTML, and WordPress for web designs a plus.
  • General pre-press and print production knowledge is essential.
  • Experience with the K4 Cross-Media Publishing Platform is a plus.
  • Must display attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills.
  • Must be able to organize time effectively and work under extreme deadlines within a fast-paced environment.

Editorial internships

Chicago magazine's editorial department seeks motivated, enthusiastic journalism students and recent graduates to help with fact checking and story research. Interns are also encouraged to pitch ideas and write for various sections of the magazine. Our minimum-wage positions are four days a week, so please state your availability in your application.

Applications are taken well in advance. Deadlines are as follows:

  • Summer, April 1
  • Fall, August 1
  • Winter, November 1
  • Spring, March 1
