The warmest cashmere. The silkiest sheets. Slip into something way more comfortable
The best quality cashmere drapes beautifully and will never pill. Widely considered the gold standard, the Italian brand Loro Piana (45 E. Oak St.; 312-664-6644) stocks cashmere, made exclusively from Hyrcus goats in Mongolia, in practically any form you can imagine: sweaters, jackets, pants, dresses, scarves, shawls, capes, and slippers. Marlowe, another Italian brand with a boutique in Chicago (800 N. Michigan Ave.; 312-988-9398), is known for its signature sweaters with modern, fitted cuts. Designers turn to Fishman Fabrics (1101 S. Desplaines St.; 312-922-7250) for coat-weight cashmere by the yard in four gorgeous neutrals. J. Crew (929 W. North Ave.; 312-951-0784, and other locations) is the budget source for 100 percent cashmere sweaters made from the same material and at the same mills as Loro Piana. Manrico Cashmere (970 N. Michigan Ave.; 312-649-1114), an Italian manufacturing company, invented cashmere sheeting— $4,900 for a queen set. In the world of cotton sheets, indulge in a jacquard set from Frette (41 E. Oak St.; 312-649-3744, frette.com). Pratesi (67 E. Oak St.; 312-943-8422, pratesi.com) uses only the finest 2 percent of all Egyptian cotton woven into fabric; its signature design is the three-line embroidered pattern first made for Coco Chanel (a queen set starts at $1,600). Arrelle Fine Linens (445 N. Wells St.; 312-321-3696) carries the best of the rest.
