Pamper Your Pooch

Two first-class hotels for the four-legged friend in your life

STAY
A pickup service will fetch your dog from your home and take him to Stay, where he'll settle into a glass-walled suite ($45 to $75) with slate floors, photographs by Keith Carter, a bed, and views of the Chicago River. Then it's off for a romp in the hotel's converted 10,000-square-foot indoor boatyard, a paddle in the pool ($25 for 20 minutes), or a nature walk along the river ($20 for 30 minutes). Before bed, there's cuddle time ($8) with a staffer. Stay also employs a dog trainer who can work with your dog (starting at $210 for three sessions) so he returns home with better manners. Amid so much pooch care, the spa also throws a bone to humans: On some days, the hotel offers free chair massages in the waiting area for owners. 4130 N. Rockwell St.; 773-509-0001

POOCH CHICAGO
"Get them a doggy weekend getaway," suggests Margaret Fulghum, Pooch's general manager. "They could stay in the hotel Friday and Saturday and, on Sunday, have a spa day so they come home smelling and looking good." At Pooch's $4-million facility, dogs have massive rooms in which to roam as well as pay-to-play options such as a dip in the pool or a run on a treadmill. The private overnight rooms—a junior suite ($47) or a larger presidential suite ($70)—offer heated floors, a 15-minute massage, and a nightly dog treat from the mini bar. There's also the full-service "SPAW," the hotel's doggy day spa, where a deluxe package ($100 to $150 depending on the size of the dog) includes a hot-oil massage, a choice of an aromatherapy shampoo or a skin-softening bath, ear cleaning, teeth brushing, and nail trimming. 2228 N. Clybourn Ave.; 773-348-2646
