Decorate to the Hilt

Demand for holiday lighting has boomed in the past five years, says Brian Dolwick, a sales manager with Wingren Landscape (715 N. Independence Blvd., Romeoville; 630-759-8100), a high-end landscaping company that serves mainly the western suburbs (its sweet spot is Hinsdale, Oak Brook, and Burr Ridge). One customer in Oak Brook spends $35,000 a year to blanket the front of his three-acre property in strings of lights, evergreen swags, and twinkly miniature artificial Christmas trees. Wingren can also deliver and decorate your tree, install a Nativity scene or lighted reindeer ensemble, or weave a working train track through a grove of trees, as it did for one client last season. In the city, Jayson Home & Garden (1885 N. Clybourn Ave.; 773-248-8180) offers holiday containers for the first time this year. Starting in November, the gardening experts at Jayson can fill your patio or window boxes with live seasonal plants such as Colorado blue spruces and tiny juniper bushes, along with cut branches for a lush effect. "With the cold weather, the boxes should stay green for six to eight weeks and the plants could live until spring," says garden manager Krista Dwiggins. Jayson can also pick up your empty containers and deliver them beautifully filled.
