Holiday Tip Line

Our tips for shopping smart, finding Santa, and taking a break from all that Christmas music

Santa Claus, Elmo, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

COOL CONCERT
If you need a break from the caroling, check out 87.7 FM’s Night We Stole Christmas, a new alt-music-palooza (AWOLNation, Youngblood Hawke) descending on the Aragon December 1.

SMART SHOPPING
Avoid store hopping and head to Macy’s this year. The State Street, Oakbrook Center, and Woodfield Mall locations will each have pop-up Toys R Us stands through January 15.

LIGHT SHOW
Don’t have time to tour the burbs for the coolest decorations this year? Head to k3lights.com. Starting December 9, the site hosts videos of the best displays in Cook County (and beyond).

SANTA SEARCH
On the hunt for Santa Claus? Track all of Saint Nick’s stops (through the city and suburbs) at santainchicago.com.

ROAD RAGE
If you’re planning on driving on December 25, avoid the United Center. The Bulls play their first Christmas Day home game in 15 years, against the Rockets at 7 p.m.
