Black Iron Tavern Welcomes Back the Cosmo

It’s pink, potent, and due for a comeback.

You probably haven’t seen a Cosmopolitan grace the drink menu of any cocktail-conscious bar since Carrie chose Big in the Sex and the City finale. After its brush with fame thanks to the HBO series, the pink drink became an easy punch line for liquor connoisseurs. Black Iron Tavern is doing its best to put an end to this unfair cocktail profiling, giving top billing to what it’s calling the West Loop’s Best Cosmo ($10). It’s sweet but not overly so, thanks to a healthy dose of lime and citrusy curaçao liqueur added to the cranberry and vodka. And for something so fruity, it holds its own surprisingly well against Michael Taus’s hefty pub fare. You can’t help but wonder, is it time for a Cosmo revival? 401 N. Milwaukee Ave.
