June 21, 2013–Alex Perez, ABC News correspondent, and Brian Merel, chef and FOX’s Hell’s Kitchen contestant, emceed this year’s Summer Lovin’ event, where they presented Chicago magazine’s 20 most eligible singles. Delicious bites were provided by Black Dog Gelato, Chicago Q, Copper Rock Steakhouse at Four Winds New Buffalo, Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar, Glazed and Infused, Hot Woks Cool Sushi, Magnolia Bakery, M Burger, Mercadito, Mercat a la Planxa, Nacional 27, New England Seafood Company Fish Market, RPM Italian, Taco Joint, Zocalo, The Palm Restaurant, and Wolfgang Puck Catering. Drinks were provided by Ketel One Vodka, Don Julio, Bulleit Bourbon, Johnnie Walker, Tanqueray, Zacapa Rum, Stella Artois, Hoegaarden, Leffe, Stella Artois Cidre, and Once Upon a Vine. Mercedes-Benz vehicles were displayed at the entrance. Guests enjoyed photo opportunities courtesy of Spex and Navy Pier. The raffle was kindly donated by American Airlines and Waikiki Parc. Partygoers relaxed in the vitaminwater® lounge.

Summer Lovin’ 2013

June 21, 2013–Chicago magazine and The Auxiliary Board of Northwestern Memorial Hospital celebrated Chicago magazine’s 20 most eligible singles at the 13th annual Summer Lovin’ event. Partygoers gathered at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago to enjoy an evening of fun, complete with delicious bites from 17 of the city’s hottest restaurants, an array of signature cocktails, a silent auction, a Hawaiian vacation raffle, a flip book station, photo booth, dancing, and much more. All proceeds from the 2013 event will support innovative bone marrow transplant research to improve cancer care at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Downtown Oak Park’s 2nd Annual Uncork IL

June 1, 2013–More than 2200 wine lovers raised a glass of Illinois wine and sampled locally crafted gourmet goodies at Downtown Oak Park’s second annual “Uncork Illinois” event. Sponsored in part by Chicago magazine, festival goers enjoyed the sound of live jazz, courtesy of WDCB, while strolling, shopping and sipping in a charming downtown setting. Chicago magazine promoted their new mobile dining and drinking app onsite as well as distributed the June 2013 issue which featured Oak Park in the Arena Insider’s Guide section.

June 7, 2013–United Way of Metropolitan Chicago hosted its annual Community Celebration event on Friday, June 7 to honor the contributions of top corporate partners, volunteers, board members and donors who support the organization’s LIVE UNITED 2020 community-impact plan and announce community impact results from the last year. John Idler, President and General Manager of ABC 7 Chicago, spoke to the importance of the need for all sectors of the community to come together in addressing community issues.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Man & Woman of the Year Grand Finale Gala

May 17, 2013–More than 400 attendees joined The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society at the Fairmont Millennium Park for the culminating gala of LLS’s annual Man & Woman of the Year campaign. In the 10 weeks leading up to the gala, local leaders in the business and philanthropic communities competed to raise the most money for LLS. After an evening of dinner, auctions, inspirational messages from two young blood cancer survivors, and more, Ryan Van Pelt and Barbara Bernick were announced as the 2013 Illinois Man & Woman of the Year for their fundraising achievements. Together the 13 candidates raised more than $775,000 for cancer research and patient support services.

Alzheimer’s Association Chicago Rita Hayworth Gala

May 11, 2013–The 26th annual Alzheimer’s Association Chicago Rita Hayworth Gala at the Hilton Chicago raised a record-breaking $1.5 million for Alzheimer’s Association care, support, and research programs. More than 900 guests attended the Mother’s Day weekend tradition and paid homage to the elegance of the silver-screen legend. Founded by Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, the Gala is a tribute to her mother, Rita Hayworth, who lost her life to Alzheimer’s disease.

The Chicago Zoological Society’s ‘Animals Around the Whirl’

April 20, 2013–The Women’s Board in partnership with the Board of Trustees of the Chicago Zoological Society hosted the 32nd annual Whirl at Brookfield Zoo on April 20. The black-tie fundraiser allowed guests the experience to get up close with a variety of charismatic animals, including a cheetah, flamingo,penguin, fennec fox, spotted genet, wallaby, tamandua, and sloth from both Brookfield Zoo and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. The $600-per-person gala was chaired by Romana Malinowski, store director of A. Marek Fine Jewelry in Oak Brook. The event, which was attended by more than 625 guests, grossed approximately $1.27 million, which will support the animals at Brookfield Zoo, as well as the Chicago Zoological Society’s conservation and education programs.

Guests joined Heiji as she selected her spring favorites and offered expert tips on trend-right styles for the season. A few lucky shoppers were chosen to win Heiji’s spring picks.

April 2, 2013–Chicago magazine hosted an exclusive reception at Perennial Virant to honor the Green Award winners featured in the April 2013 issue. This year’s honorees are Greg Hall, Nancy Tuchman, Emmanuel Pratt, Amy Francetic, and Rand Ekman. In addition to delicious hors d’oeuvres and drinks, guests enjoyed a DIY urban gardening workshop provided by Green City Market.
