These listings bear no relationship to advertising in Chicago magazine. They are a selective guide to establishments recommended by Chicago’s dining critics. Visits are anonymous and all expenses are paid by Chicago magazine. New restaurants are generally allowed six weeks to establish themselves before our critics make their first visit.

 

Ratings are determined by food quality, menu selection, service, ambiance, and value.

  • 4 stars = superlative
  • 3 stars = excellent
  • 2 stars = very good
  • 1 star = good
  • • classic = classics and hot spots (for tried-and-true Chicago fare or to sample the latest trend)

 

Prices indicate the cost of a meal, which includes appetizer, main course, dessert, and coffee or tea (without tax, tip, or wine). Restaurants that appear in these listings, unless otherwise noted, accept most major credit cards.
