Things have slipped a notch at Mindy Segal’s popular Bucktown lair. Much of the crowd-pleasing fare seems to be resting on its impeccably sourced laurels, and pacing issues compound the problem. Seek out the Plapp Farm grits with Laughing Bird Caribbean white shrimp with red onion and mushrooms; avoid the olive-oil-poached tuna melt with wild capers and Havarti. And what must be Chicago’s most extensive and ever-changing dessert list still leans to fun—if over-the-top—creations, like Thoughts on a Peanut Butter Cup: a rich mousse with hot fudge, Concord grape syrup, and great peanut butter cookie dough truffles.
