"My brand is unforced - it fits into your life."

“I took a trip to Punta del Este in Uruguay. The culture is stern European mixed with a South American flavor. Chic and resorty, but sensual and happy. Sophisticated shapes, fun colors, but without being vulgar. I was also inspired by Penélope Cruz in Pedro Almodóvar’s Volver.”

“I have production in Asia and show rooms in Los Angeles and New York. Between FedEx and e-mailing and proximity to O’Hare, it doesn’t matter anymore where you live.”

“My criteria when I was looking for a studio was that I had to have a space that was large and full of light. And I had to be able to walk from my home.”

“I designed for Abercrombie & Fitch for three years, and vintage is a big part of the Abercrombie culture. I traveled all over the world and shopped vintage wherever I went. It’s to explore detailing rather than construction, because I think that we all can agree that the way the garments were constructed a long time ago, we can’t do anymore.”

Colorado's line, Blake Standard, is available at Bloomingdale's, 900 North Michigan Avenue, 312-915-3916.
