Winter Cocktail Recipe Challenge: Official Contest Rules
The entry period for the Chicago magazine Winter Cocktail Recipe Challenge (“Contest”) runs from 9 a.m. CST on Monday, January 16, 2011 to 12 a.m. CST on Friday, February 3, 2011 (“Contest Period”). The sponsor of this Contest is Chicago Magazine, 435 North Michigan Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611 (“Sponsor”). The Contest shall be subject to these Official Rules, and by entering, all participants agree to be bound by the terms and conditions herein.

How to Enter: Submit an original cocktail recipe (the “Recipe”) that you believe exemplifies Chicago’s winter season. Email entries should be submitted to email@example.com. Mailed entries should be sent to Winter Recipe Challenge, c/o Chicago magazine, 435 North Michigan Avenue, Suite 1100, Chicago, IL 60611. Regardless of method of entry, you must also include your complete and accurate name, address, email address, and telephone number, as well as your date of birth, title of the Recipe, and inspiration behind it. All entries must be submitted and received within the Contest Period and must be in English. Limit one entry per person. Sponsor’s clock shall be the official clock of the Contest. In the event of a dispute regarding the identity of an entrant, the holder of the email account will be deemed the person who submitted the entry.
Winner Selection: Mixologist Kris von Dopek of Duchamp, located at 2118 N. Damen Ave., Chicago, IL 60647, will select the winning Recipe based on originality and merit. Entrants agree that all decisions made by the judge relating to any and all issues related to this Contest are final and binding.
Eligibility: This Contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States or DC, who are ages twenty-one years and older at the time of entry. Employees (and their immediate family members (defined as spouse, parents, siblings or children) or household members (whether or not related)) of the Sponsor and of its advertising companies, parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, and/or public relations companies affiliated with this Contest, are not eligible to participate. A potential winner may be requested to provide the Sponsor with proof that the potential winner is the authorized account holder of the email address associated with the winning entry and that all eligibility requirements are met. THIS CONTEST IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.
Winner Notification: Sponsor will attempt to notify the potential winner by telephone or by email using the information provided in the entry by end of business Monday, February 6, 2011. If a potential winner cannot be contacted or does not respond within 48 hours of the attempted first contact, if a potential winner does not fulfill the eligibility requirements, if a potential winner does not adhere to the Official Rules, or if the prize notification is returned as undeliverable, that potential winner will be disqualified and Sponsor may select a new potential winner by the same criteria set forth above. Winner may be required to sign and return a Recipe Release, Affidavit of Eligibility, and Liability/Publicity Release. Failure to return all such documents set forth herein (if required) within ten days of the date Sponsor sends them to winner will result in the winner being disqualified and another winner may be selected from remaining eligible entries, based on the criteria set forth above.
Prize: The Prize consists of the following: The winning Recipe will be featured in an upcoming print issue of Chicago magazine and on a webpage hosted at Chicagomag.com. Prize is not transferable or redeemable for cash, and prize substitution will not be allowed, except at the discretion of the Sponsor. Properly claimed prize will be awarded, but in no event will Sponsor award more prizes than are provided for in these Official Rules. Certain Recipes may be published on the Contest website, but publication does not mean that a particular Recipe has been selected as the winner.
Responsibility Release: By entering, contestants agree to release, waive, and hold harmless Sponsor and its affiliates, subsidiaries, parent companies, advertising and promotional agencies, and all of their officers, directors, shareholders, employees and agents from and against any and all claims, losses, damages, and liability arising from injuries, damages, costs, or expenses of any kind (including without limitation attorney’s fees) incurred as a result of the contestants’ participation in this Contest and/or their acceptance, use, or misuse of the prize. Neither the failure of Sponsor to insist upon or enforce strict performance of any provision of these Official Rules or the failure, delay or omission by Sponsor in exercising any right with respect to any term of these Official Rules, will be construed as a waiver or relinquishment to any extent of Sponsor’s right to assert or rely upon any such provision or right in that or any other instance.
Publicity: By entering this Contest, contestants agree to allow use of their name, voice, photograph, likeness, any information provided on entry form, and their Recipe in any medium of communication, including but not limited to print, Internet, radio and/or television and for any purpose, including advertising, promotional or other purposes, by Sponsor and its licensees and affiliates, without additional compensation.
Internet/Fraud/Tampering: Sponsor is not responsible for printing or typographical errors in any Contest-related materials; for entries or Recipes that are lost, late, misdirected, deleted, incomplete, inaccurate, or garbled or entries that are processed, reported, or transmitted late or incorrectly or are lost for any reason, including computer, telephone, paper transfer, human or other error, or for electronic, computer or telephonic malfunction or error, including inability to access any website associated with this Contest, or process any transaction thereon. If for any reason this Contest is not capable of running as planned, or if this Contest or any web site associated therewith (or any portion thereof) becomes corrupted or does not allow the proper playing of the Contest and processing of entries in accordance with these rules, or if infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, actions by entrants, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes, in the Sponsor’s opinion, corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, the Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual implicated in such action and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or suspend the internet portion of the Contest. In the event the Internet portion of the Contest is cancelled, the judges panel will select winner applying the criteria set forth above to all eligible, non-suspect email entries received prior to the time of the action or event warranting such cancellation and all mail-in entries received by the end of the Contest Period. If such cancellation, termination, modification, or suspension occurs, notification will be posted on the Contest website. ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE (INCLUDING THE ENTRY SITE) OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION. Sponsor reserves the right to prohibit any entrant from participating in the Contest if, at its sole discretion, Sponsor finds such entrant to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest, or if such entrant shows a disregard for, or attempts to circumvent, these Official Rules, or acts: (a) in a manner the Sponsor determines to be not fair or equitable; (b) with an intent to annoy, threaten or harass any other entrant or Sponsor; or (c) in any other disruptive manner.
