Don't Miss: Art from the Heart
New Zealand/Australian artist/scholar Ruth Watson makes art using salt, images of her own tongue, and other unconventional media. Hear her discuss her work.
By Ann Wiens
From our American perspective, New Zealand falls nearly off the map. But New Zealand/Australian artist/scholar Ruth Watson has made a career of exploring the edges of that map and how they affect our understanding of the world. With a particular emphasis on the cordiform, a 16th-century map that attempted to explain the globe in the shape of a heart, Watson makes art using salt, images of her own tongue, and other unconventional media. Hear her discuss her work in a free lecture, 11 a.m. January 26th at the Newberry Library.
