With so many doctors to choose from in metropolitan Chicago, where should you turn in times of of medical crisis? The list found in our Top Docs issue, prepared for Chicago by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd., is a good place to start. Arranged by 57 commonly consulted specialties, the list provides information about 347 local doctors, including their areas of special interest and hospital affiliation. While some of these doctors may be too busy to take on new patients, they usually have partners who can assist you, or they might recommend a doctor at another practice. Chicago and the suburbs are home to many fine physicians, some of whom may not appear on our list. But if a crisis hits, it's reassuring to know that the doctors listed in this issue have won the confidence of their fellow MDs.

The digital edition of the Top Doctors issue is now available for purchase.

It's unfortunate that this article fails to mention that and MD is not the only Physician licensed to practice medicine and surgery in the United States, though the title: "the best MD's in 57 specialties," would lead you to believe such. DO's (Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine) are likely included amongst several of these "top physician's," mentioned in the article. It's unfortunate that the distinction of the additional training and their better approach to patient care is not made in the article.

Perhaps the author and publisher should do a little more homework next time around.

I have just returned to the Chicago area and am looking for a top doctor as a PCP. I am also looking for a top hematologist/oncologist as well to monitor my MGUS. I am searching for the best way to find the best.

It is unfortunate that Chicago Magazine chooses to profit by charging $12 to look up a specialty physician in an issue long past publication. After a few months, this information should be available in the search window.... FREE. Obviously the goal of Chicago Magazine is not to help Chicagoans to pursue the best health care available, but rather to profit at those Chicagoans expense. It costs you nothing to have a data base accessible by search. Shame on you Chicago Magazine. I'll go to the library and read it FREE.

You should go to Avvo to find a doctor it's free and they have scored the doctors background to help you make a more informed decision. That's where I found my family doctor when I moved back here and he turned out great!

This is essentially an advertisment. One of the physicains has lost his privileges to operate because of poor outcomes!
