Mark Bell, 25
Center, Chicago Blackhawks
Lives in: Lincoln Park
Backstory: Bell grew up in St. Pauls, Ontario, and was just 15 years old when he faced a daunting decision: leave his family and play hockey, or stay home and focus on eventually earning a college hockey scholarship in the United States. “It’s the biggest decision I’ve ever made,” he says. “My family means everything to me.” The chance to play junior hockey in Ottawa eventually won him over, and in 1998 Bell was drafted by the Blackhawks, the eighth pick overall. He has quickly become one of the few bright spots for the struggling franchise. “I truly love it here,” he says. “I just wish we were better and we’d win more.” Bell finished with the second most points on the Blackhawks last season.
