Backstory: Born and raised in the small town of Benson, Louisiana, Muench is the daughter of hippie parents who named her after the singer Nina Simone. She has written four books of poetry, including her most recent, Lampblack & Ash, which was picked as an editor’s selection in the New York Times Book Review. She completed her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Colorado and recently received her PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Despite all her literature and writing classes, part of her doctoral studies focused on modern horror films. She now directs the creative writing program at Lewis University in Romeoville and has taught at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Never less than 20 percent, even if the person is terrible. I waited tables for years.

I’m good at name-that-horror-film.
