Tara Noronha, 25
Development coordinator for Children’s Memorial Foundation
Lives in: Lake View
Backstory: Noronha grew up in Oak Brook and graduated from Fenwick High School and the University of Notre Dame. Through the years, she has taken almost annual family trips to India, her parents’ homeland. Each time, the poverty there made a lasting impression. “I always looked around and wondered why I was born into a more fortunate life, and others weren’t,” she says. “I wanted to help.” In February 2005, Noronha moved to India for six months, volunteering in children’s slums and an orphanage established by Mother Teresa for handicapped children. While there, she also spent time helping with the relief effort for victims of the 2004 tsunami.
