Best New Restaurants 2010

Twenty-one spots to remember from the past year, including storefront long shots, hotel no-brainers, and—in case you hadn't noticed—a ridiculous amount of pork

In the past year, we have seen a four-star chef peddling tortas (Rick Bayless at Xoco), a three-star chef turning tacos (Paul Kahan, Big Star), and a two-star chef doing Korean meatball sandwiches (Bill Kim, Belly Shack). Meanwhile, kitchen soldiers you’ve never heard of, like Jason McLeod (Ria) and Todd Stein (Cibo Matto), shoot for the stars—and reach them—in new upscale hotels. Has everything turned upside down? If so, we’re all for it. The year’s 21 best new restaurants may represent our most diverse roster yet, including establishments that produce everything from a grilled dry-aged sirloin on Anson Mills grits in Lake Bluff (Inovasi) to pork kebabs in Pilsen (DeColores). The takeaway? In Chicago, good food comes in all shapes, sizes, and tax brackets.

PLUS: Check out the best new bites, including the juiciest Korean short ribs and the most comforting fried chicken

One of our favorite experiences was in Park Ridge
at Nona Silvias! Chef John and Chef Steve are not only great hosts but wonderful Italian culinary artists. Everything tastes like your Mother made it, (if you had a Mother that was an awesome cook)! We love the gnocchi and the pasta dishes are both appealing to the eye and a delite to the pallette. My husband is fond of pizza anywhere but these are creative and scrumptious! If you like fine wines the selection and age will not disappoint. Check out their marvelous feasts and desserts in the clip provided. After watching you're going to be hungry! Promise! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dlmTn8hMwE @Nonnasilvias
