Methodology
In analyzing Chicago-area auto body shops, Checkbook asked area consumers to rate several aspects of their service experience “inferior,” “adequate,” or “superior.” More than 6,000 surveys were compiled. Each of the listed shops was rated by at least 25 customers. The percentage of customers who rated the overall performance of a shop as “superior” is given on our list.
Checkbook also considered complaints on file at the Better Business Bureau for a recent three-year period and with the Illinois Office of the Attorney General for a recent two-year period. None of the shops listed in the chart had any complaints on file during those periods.
To compare prices, Checkbook’s shoppers, without revealing their affiliation with Checkbook, contacted body shops and requested price quotes for specific jobs. Prices were then compared among shops. The chart shows how each shop’s prices compared with the average, which here is scaled to $100. For example, a shop with a price of $90 on the table quoted prices 10 percent lower than the average quoted price.

Absolutely recommend B & L to anyone. Was in for a simple repair, was greeted by four different staff in the 30 minutes I was there: manager, assistant manager, mechanic, and clerical staff. Everyone referred to me by name. Twice I went out with Brian Mende to look at my car together and discuss the options. We printed price quotes for each: a $25 quick basic fix or the $310 complete "perfect" fix. Appreciated having the cheap, functional fix presented.
Exceptional in terms of friendly, attentive, and prompt service! Definitely considerate of my schedule in completing work as quickly as possible and keeping me informed how it was going. I absolutely recommend B & L to anyone!

Went to Richards Body Shop on 3041 W Lawrence in Chicago 773-588-3301. My car was hit while parked and I and they did a fantastic job on my car. There is a lady at the desk named Simone who handled everything for me. She reported the accident to the other parties insurance, dealt with the adjuster, had me upgraded at no charge into a nice rental car and even had someone deliver my iPod to my house after I forgot it in the car. I have been in several accidents and no place compares to this one. I have sent many people there since my accident and everyone says the same thing. My coworker says that they do great mechanic work too.
Great work and friendly service at The Body Shop of Barrington. Highly recommended. After running over a deer and sliding into a post off the road, I brought my 2007 Toyota Rav4 in. I received a friendly greeting from Lori when I first came in and Paul came right out to write an estimate. Dents were removed, repairs were made and repainting of the back panel by the wheel, the bumper and the spare tire cover. The paint match was perfect, I cannot tell where they repainted! I have gladly recommended The Body Shop of Barrington to friends and family and will continue to do so in the future.
