17. Sullivan’s Steakhouse

Photo: Courtesy Sullivan’s

It’s undoubtedly a sleeper, right? A chain steak house in River North flanked by big-deal competitors—Ruth’s Chris, Harry Caray’s, Keefer’s—that serves up a familiar roster of meat, seafood, and martinis. Surprise! Sully’s delivers some of the juiciest steaks around.

First things first, though. Why not pause in the hopping lounge filled with youngish professionals snacking on sub-$15 bar bites? Toss back a martini (the citrus-tinged Knockout befits the light mood) and take in the live jazz. Then make your way to the comfy dining room, and don’t think twice about ordering the house specialty: an 18-ounce bone-in Kansas City strip. At $41 (and with the ability to sate both you and your date), it puts the offerings of many glitzier steak behemoths to shame.

Perfect for: The after-work crowd
