Chicago Says Goodbye to Velvet Lounge Owner and Jazz Icon Fred Anderson

The legendary tenor saxophonist Fred Anderson died this past Thursday, June 24th, after a heart attack, at the age of 81. Large crowds of friends, musicians, and longtime admirers will turn out to pay respects during his memorial service tonight at Leak & Sons Funeral Home at 7838 South Cottage Grove Avenue (the wake is at 5 p.m.; the funeral service starts at 6 p.m.)...

Two years ago for the magazine, I wrote a profile of Rocky Wirtz, the owner of the Chicago Blackhawks, so I was among the thousands, perhaps millions of fans who watched with rapture and jubilation as the team claimed its first NHL victory in 49 years. The Q Brothers' 'Funk' Returns to Chicago Shakespeare Theater

Chicago Shakespeare Theater announced a couple of additions to its 2010-11 World’s Stage series this morning, one of which is National Theatre of Scotland’s critically-acclaimed Black Watch.
