WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND

Up next in our series of weekend plans from notable, in-the-know locals—a.k.a. people we like: Yolanda Cursach, the Hyde Park resident and associate director of performance programs at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.
“On Friday, I’m going to see the world premiere of Pedro Páramo at the Goodman Theatre. The MCA was a co-comissioner of this project and I’m really looking forward it it. Teatro Buendia is an amazing company from Cuba led by a really formidable woman, Flora Lauten. Afterwards I might get a drink at Pippin’s Tavern. They have a great selection of drawn beer.
“Saturday, I’m going to see Marie Chouinard perform in the MCA galleries. I’m really excited about that because she very rarely does solo work in galleries anymore. Later that night her company is performing a program of two one-act ballets. The one I’m really excited about is based on a poem by the Belgian poet and artist Henri Michaux. It’s an experiment and it looks amazing on our stage.
“Sunday I’m actually going to head over to Victory Gardens. Theater Oobleck is doing There Is A Happiness that Morning Is. It’s a piece about two lovers of an unsexy middle age who are both undergraduate lecturers of poetry. I love that it’s written for rhyme to verse. Right after, I’m going to jog over to Theater 773 where Teatro Luna is opening a play Your Problem With Men. They are just some of my favorite female rebels. Their work is really fresh and original. Later, I’ll get back to Hyde Park to hit Hyde Park Records and browse for some new vinyl. I’ll end the weekend at Rajun Cajun. It’s this hole in the wall but they have the most amazing food. They have amazing greens and Gobi Mutter.” —As told to Elly Fishman
