With an event the size of Lollapalooza (120 bands; 200,000 attendance expected), there’s sure to be a wealth of pre-parties, after-parties and after-after-parties. After jamming to Dave Specter Thursday night at Millennium Park, good Southern girl that I am, I headed over to Subterranean for Paste magazine’s pre-Lolla party.
If you don’t know it, Paste is a music-heavy arts and culture magazine that’s assembled in the creepy-crawly metropolis of Atlanta. For their pre-party, the eds wrangled Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and G. Love-but, of course, the airline industry had other plans. Most of Clap Your Hands got stuck at the airport so Clap frontman Alec Ounsworth had to carry the show solo.
G. Love fared better solo, peaking with a tribute to early Bob Dylan. I resisted the urge to sidle up to him after the show and suggest that he drop the “Cold Beverages” song; I know that’s the tune that got his name out on the college circuit, but he looks bored playing it, and so does the audience.
Off to the fest all weekend with trusty photo Maria Biano. Stay tuned for updates.Edit Module
