This 1886 brick Victorian in DePaul went for just a touch more than the White Sox catcher paid for it in 2006.

List Price: $1.75 million
Sale Price: $1.675 million
The Property: A. J. Pierzynski, who caught for the White Sox for eight years including the 2005 World Series championship season, sold his home in the DePaul neighborhood on May 1. It was on the market just eight days.

Pierzynski, who’s now with the Texas Rangers, and his wife, Lisa, bought the five-bedroom home in April 2006 for $1.625 million.

The brick Victorian was built in 1886 and modernized inside by an early 2000s owner. It has five bedrooms, three full baths and one partial, and, according to the listing a rooftop deck on the garage. The photos show crown moldings, a eat-in kitchen, and lots of stylish finishes.

Pierzynski came to the White Sox in 2005, and went on with them to win the World Series. He became known for a “bad boy” attitude. Ozzie Guillen said of Pierzynski: “If you play against him, you hate him. If you play with him, you hate him a little less.” In early 2012, he was voted the “most hated” major league player.

Pierzynski left the White Sox for Texas in January and listed the house for sale February 19. It went under contract just over a week later, on February 27. The sale closed Wednesday.

Thursday, one day after the sale closed, was the first time Pierzynski batted as a Ranger against the White Sox. He got hit by a pitch.

Price Points: The sale price brought the Pierzynskis a three percent profit; had they gotten full price—which has happened in many of the recent caffeinated sales in hot neighborhoods—their profit would have been 7.6 percent. The house was offered furnished, though I don’t yet know if it sold that way. I haven’t yet connected with the listing agent, Emily Sachs Wong. The buyers are not yet identified in the public records.
