Nike Chicago Reopens After Renovation

After closing in March for renovations, Nike Chicago (669 N. Michigan Ave., 312-642-6363) reopened its Michigan Avenue flagship store last week. Bo Jackson, the sports legend and former Sox star, cut the ceremonial ribbon, which reprised a guest-of-honor role he first played when the store debuted in ‘92. So what’s new in Nike town? The athletic megastore added a fourth retail level, introduced a NIKEiD studio for in-store shoe customization, and crammed all the Chicago-themed sports swag it could fit into one 50,000-square-foot building. On the first floor, a Michael Jordan merch sanctum houses the world’s largest selection of MJ-branded sneakers—as well as a nostalgic display of Air Jordans. Throughout the store, you’ll come across vintage photos on loan from the Bears’ collection, team regalia from 40 area high schools, and Chicago Marathon gear designed by the local artist Cody Hudson (such as running shoes, $135).

Anna Dello Russo, Japanese Vogue’s fashion-editor-at-large, created a limited-edition accessories collection for H&M that only will be sold in select U.S. cities—including the Chicago flagship (840 N. Michigan Ave., 312-640-0060, hm.com). Not for the sartorially shy, Russo’s statement-making shoes, jewelry, bags, sunglasses, and luggage ($25 to $299) hit stores Thursday, October 4.

Decades (shopdecadesinc.com), a luxury clothing consignment boutique in LA, returns to Space519 (900 N. Michigan Ave., fifth floor, 312-751-1519, space519.com) on Saturday, October 6 and Sunday, October 7 for a pop-up trunk show. Among Decades’ selection of vintage and gently used clothes and accessories, we hear you’ll find labels by the likes of Chanel, Chloé, and Christian Louboutin.

• Chicago’s eDrop-Off (shopedropoff.com) recently landed the mother lode of vintage Oscar de la Renta. Through Monday, October 8, evening gowns, embroidered jackets, and other pieces—75 in all—are auctioned online. The bidding starts at $18.99 or $49.99 (though starts is the key word here).

Participating shops (including Urban Source, Dovetail, and Sprout Home, to name a few) transform into temporary galleries to display work by local and up-and-coming artists and designers.

Openings

Madewell (110 Oakbrook Center, Oak Brook, madewell.com), J.Crew’s popular kid sister, opens Wednesday, October 3 in Oakbrook Center.

The discount retailer Burlington Coat Factory (1 N. State St.) opens its new Midwest flagship on Friday, October 5. Rumor has it they’re more than just great coats.

Rouse (132 N. Addison Ave., Elmhurst, 630-501-0906, rouseelmhurst.com), a new boutique in Elmhurst, holds its grand-opening celebration on Saturday, October 6. The boutique stocks socially-conscious clothing for women and kids and doubles as a space for yoga classes and design workshops.
