Weekend Photos: Super Bowl Potluck @ Empty Bottle

Posted Feb 7, 2011 at 11:30 AM

You think hipsters don’t care about football? Wrong. It’s the Black Eyed Peas they could take or leave. An easy-going crowd gathered Sunday for Rory Lake’s Super Pot Luck Bowl Full of Dreams at the Empty Bottle, and our photographer was there to document the alternative game day action in all its indie glory. Organized by the local karaoke impresario Lake, the festivities included a potluck dinner (free admission with a dish), the big game via projection TV, a live halftime set from the self-dubbed “rock ’n’ roll sideshow” Cooler by the Lake, and, in place of endless post-game recaps, more singing and dancing. Browse our photos below.

Oh, Merv, I hate life, too. If this article didn't play up the "hipster" angle, this event was nothing more than neighborhood folk having fun with the game in a casual setting. People suck.

This is supposed to be a happening gathering? Maybe the photographer should show up before all the chow is consumed.

No one lessened the value of a by line in Chicago more than Rupert Murdoch when he bought the Sun Times years ago. Fortunately he's gone, but the ability for any hack to get published continues.

I have to go with Merv...I don't see the point in this; and Binger? Lighten up, Francis.

Lighten up? Merv's the one knockin' the event. All it is, is people watching the freakin Super Bowl in a bar, with a band playing live at half time. It's a different way to enjoy the day. Merv is swayed by the author's unnecessary use of the term, "hipster" just because it was at the Empty Bottle. I doubt the author was even in attendance. And, Cooler by the Lake is by no means a "hip" band.

Your red phone is ringing, Commissioner Gordon.
