Saturday was a gorgeous night to take in the scene at the Hideout Block Party. Although the evening featured an eight-band lineup, the vibe was decidedly more block party than music festival/concert. In comparison to other Chicago fests, this one attracts a more mature crowd—both in age and demeanor—and lots of people were just chilling out, sitting on the curb or lawn chairs.
Food trucks were a huge draw. There were at least a half dozen, serving sliders, tamales, pastries, barbecue, and ice cream, and most all had perpetual lines throughout the night. Drink-wise, Lagunitas flowed from taps, and there was a special Fusion Hideout A.V. Fest Ale brewed specifically for the block party.
And oh yeah, the music: We caught the full set from bar-rockers The Hold Steady, who clearly demonstrated why they’ve garnered a reputation as one of the best live acts around.
It was a fitting way to bookend the summer.
