The Chicago Slushie
Who's sick of winter already?
This photo by Matt Maldre (Flickr alias: spudart) stood out among the hundreds of Chicago winter scenes I perused to find a visual representation of my mood today while de-thawing from the morning commute. I could have easily shared with you an artsy shot of the frozen river or a beautifully lit skyline shown through winter fog. But this shot said so much more about my current attitude toward winter in Chicago: dark, yucky, and yet still beautiful. Maldre calls it "a cast of characters huddling together in the urban coldness."

Photo Editor Brittney Blair loves looking at photos (especially of Mayor Daley) and thinks models need to eat more. Online Editor Esther Kang is vertically-challenged and will climb and crawl through virtually anything to get the perfect shot. Together, they bring you great views of the city, tips on how to shoot like a pro, and behind-the-scenes peeks at the twisted and fascinating world of picture making.
