What I’m Doing This Weekend

Up next in our series of weekend plans from notable, in-the-know locals—a.k.a. people we like: bassist and composer Matt Ulery. He performs at Constellation on Friday, October 10.

“I made a double CD with the ensemble Eighth Blackbird, so we’re doing a show together at Constellation on Friday. I’m at Constellation a lot; they do a great job getting consistent quality art that’s not all in the same scene. There are a lot of other shows by friends on Friday too. My friend, trumpeter Marquis Hill, will be performing at the Green Mill and another friend, Noah Harris, will be performing at the Hideout. He made a cassette tape of psychedelic rock.

“Saturday, I’m going to the Magritte exhibit at the Art Institute. My wife says it’s a must-see. Then I’ll go to Parachute; it’s Korean-inspired food that I like because it’s in my neighborhood.

“Sunday, my wife and I have a CSA with Radical Root Farm, so we’ll go pick up our vegetables in the morning. Then every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Joel Patterson Trio performs with the organist Chris Foreman, who’s a Chicago treasure.” —As told to Tomi Obaro
