Opening

Last week, I covered a kerfuffle happening inside Rockit Ranch Productions, as owner Billy Dec bowed out of the namesake restaurant in River North. But after a renovation, Rockit Bar & Grill (22 W. Hubbard St.) is open for business again. The space has more games (and “vintage motorcycle installations,” which sounds like the owners are trying real hard); there’s also a revamped menu to breathe some new life into the 15-year-old institution.

Morsels

Get ready: The “are we living in a war zone?” feeling delivered by the Chicago Air & Water Show is about to return. There are plenty of great places to watch the aerial insanity on August 18 and 19, but one unexpected one that you might want to check out is Café Brauer (2021 N. Stockton Dr.) at Lincoln Park Zoo. It will be offering some really good deals on beer that weekend. If you haven’t yet been there for brunch, you’re missing out on one of the best views the city offers.

If you’re a fan of Scottish food, put Balmoral (40W099 IL Route 64, Campton Hills) on your list. The new restaurant will serve traditional favorites like haggis, bangers & mash, and savory pies, according to the Trib’s profile.

The controversy over the now-shuttered Grace continues, as former owner Michael Olszewski just sued former chef Curtis Duffy and general manager Michael Muser for a hefty chunk of change. The parties were already engaged in fierce litigation over the non compete agreements under which the two men were operating, but Olszewski has hit them with a new lawsuit alleging some rather serious charges of absenteeism and theft. Here’s hoping that this mess resolves quickly so this particular dream team can get back to serving amazing food.
