Soak Up Bohemian, Brit-Punk Vibes at the Bassment

The massive speakeasy transports you to place far from River North.

Enter a doorway disguised as a cigar shop at 363 West Hubbard Street and you’ll actually be walking into the Bassment, a speakeasy bar that’ll make you feel like you’re not River North anymore.

Steeped in darkness, the massive underground space attracts an eclectic crowd reveling in the Bohemian, Brit-punk vibe. There are plenty of couches where you can imbibe classic cocktails and soak up the live music. And while it has its fair share of clubby touches, like bottles served in vats filled with glowing golden ice cubes, it’s a unique experience for the neighborhood.

Here’s what we saw when we swung by Saturday.
