After a few months of delays, ownership now plans to open the book on La Storia (1154 N. Dearborn St., no phone yet), Ideology Entertainment’s upcoming Italian restaurant, in mid-April.

The address may say 1154, but the restaurant also occupies the first floor of 1156. Customers enter at 1154 into the bar area. Passing the bar, they reach the main dining room. On the second story, a 32-seat front dining room shares space with an 18-seat private room with original 1890s architectural elements, called the Vintage Room.

Justin Ferguson, the corporate executive chef for Ideology (Chicago Q, Blue Door Farm Stand), has sketched La Storia’s menu. “The menu is about Italy—the Piedmont region to dishes from Sicily, but done here in Chicago and using a farm-to-table approach,” he says. House-made pastas like tagliatelle and orecchiette might be prepared simply as cacio e pepe. Ferguson also leafs through garganelli with rabbit, ravioli, traditional Bolognese, and market risotto. Eric Sibley, who worked with Ferguson in New Orleans, will serve as chef de cuisine.

Cognate to the English word “story,” La Storia takes its name from the story of culture and family, written into lives around the table. Looking forward to the opening—or should we say, the once upon a time.
