Derby Went All Out for the Big Race This Weekend

At the Lincoln Park bar’s best-dressed contest, there were enough floppy hats and seersucker suits to make you think you were at Churchill Downs.

Anything you may have found at Churchill Downs during Saturday’s running of the Kentucky Derby was probably also at Derby (1224 W. Webster Ave., 773-248-0900), Lincoln Park’s (appropriately named) horse racing-themed bar and home to a massive party for the so-called “Fastest Two Minutes in Sports.”

In addition to free-flowing mimosas and mint juleps as guests waited to watch California Chrome beat the field, there was Southern-style fashion in spades—seersucker suits and bowties for the gents and dresses and massive hats for ladies, all in an attempt to win the day’s pre-race best dressed contest. The winning woman came in a floppy pink hat and matching dress; the male champ wore his derby-jockey finest.

Here’s what else we saw while waiting for the bugler to call the horses to the post.
