What to Eat and Drink in Chicago This Week

Tuesday, November 18

Need an excuse for running behind tomorrow morning? Glazed and Infused (1576 N. Milwaukee Ave., Wicker Park, 312-226-5556) can help: Until the end of the construction at the Damen Blue Line stop, doughnuts at this location only are buy one, get one free when you flash your Ventra card between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. They suggest sharing your second treat as a peace offering toward aggrieved employers.

Wednesday, November 19

The (edible) stars are coming out for the opening night of the Chicago Food Film Festival. The annual celebration includes a double feature of Edzo Dreams of Cheeseburgers, a food doc send-up by writer Michael Gebert, and The Great Chicken Wing Hunt, one man’s quest to find the best Buffalo wings out there. The afterparty offers an all-you-can-eat wing feast, burgers and shakes from Edzo’s, and pies from Hoosier Mama to top things off. Thursday, November 20

Sip and snack at Más (800 W. Washington Blvd., West Loop, 312-243-1995) during their upcoming tasting—you’ll get two cocktails made with Espolon’s liquor as well as a tasting flight and tacos. Buy $25 tickets here.

Friday, November 21

Stop by Bang Bang Pie Shop (2051 N. California Ave., Logan Square, 773-276-8888) for an early afternoon slice of pie and a chance to chat with the owners of Brooklyn–based bakery Ovenly, who will be signing and selling copies of their new, eponymous cookbook. They’ll have samples of their parmesan black pepper scone with cranberry compound butter to pass out, too.

Sunday, November 23

In recognition of the 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, Bohemian House (11 W. Illinois St., River North, 312-955-0439) will be going fully Czech today through Tuesday night. Their usual menu will be beefed up with additions from three chefs visiting from the InterContinental Hotel Prague, all of whom will be around to chat during dinner service.
