For a South Side and suburban pizza chain looking to expand, a few blocks south of Wrigley Field seems like the perfect place for a Home Run Inn (3215 N. Sheffield Ave., Lake View, no phone yet). The three-generation family business, with storefronts in Little Village, Beverly, near Midway, and in the west and southwest suburbs, plans to open its first North Side location in the space that formerly held the Leona’s flagship.

The restaurant seats 140 inside and 30 outside and will be spruced up before opening. “We’re trying to bring back a lot of what was covered up,” says Dan Costello, Home Run Inn’s president of restaurant operations. “There’s beautiful brick behind the drywall. We will go with what the space presents us.”

The menu will feature a supporting cast of burgers and American grill food alongside the headliner, Home Run Inn’s thin-crust, South Side tavern-style pizza. Many North Siders will know Home Run Inn pizza only from its frozen version, which received top marks in Chicago’s July 2010 frozen-pizza tasting. Sixteen beers will be available on tap at the Lake View location, and Costello expects a lot of delivery business.

They plan to open in the first quarter of 2015. That’s right, Cubs fans—wait till next year.
