Residence: Lincoln Park
What’s in Ryan Huyler’s condo? Furniture that the previous owners threw in to sweeten the deal. A TV. A comfy recliner. Guy stuff. Look all you want, but there aren’t any cheesy souvenirs from this travel buff’s adventures exploring the globe. “There is no map with tacks on it,” Huyler says.
Instead, he keeps memories, photographs, a few posters, and one extra fat passport to document the two years he spent overseas as an outdoor adventure guide. He taught skiing in the Swiss Alps, led canoes through France’s Ardèche Gorges, and ran an international sports camp near London. When it was all over, Huyler headed to Montana for grad school, majoring in education. But something eventually brought him back home to Chicago.
“The nomadic lifestyle I was leading had to end,” says the University of Wisconsin grad.
He went for a real-estate license, putting to good use his city savvy gained from growing up in the Rogers Park, Lincoln Park, and Lake View neighborhoods, and joined Coldwell Banker Lincoln Park Plaza group in 2003. Outside of work, he regularly hangs out with friends, many of whom are loyal mates from his high-school days at St. Ignatius. But while his buddies are good company for a Cubs game, he says, they’re not much help in the dating department. “A lot of my guy friends are still single. If they find a girl who is really cool, they’re going to keep her for themselves.”
