Yafa Weisman, 30
Lives in: The Gold Coast
Backstory: Weisman has lived in Chicago for all but her four years studying dietetics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. A marathon runner and the youngest of three siblings, she graduated from Francis Parker High School and grew up spending time with dozens of relatives. Weisman’s mom, originally from Marrakech, Morocco, was one of nine children who eventually had 28 children of their own. “The youngest of my cousins just turned 22 and the oldest is 45,” Weisman says. For years, many of the cousins saw each other every Friday night for the Jewish tradition of Shabbat dinner. “I grew up in a very traditional way,” Weisman says. “I was always surrounded by family.”
