Connecting Students to the Future

GEMS World Academy opens new Upper School

The role of education is changing. Schools have to prepare students for a world that is more diverse, more connected and more rapidly evolving than ever before. Memorizing dates and formulas is not enough; today’s students must know how to think, how to communicate and how to create.

GEMS Upper School GEMS Upper School

GEMS World Academy Chicago, a private school in the Lakeshore East neighborhood, embraces this mission. Our International Baccalaureate curriculum framework is built on inquiry and critical thinking. GEMS students are encouraged to ask questions about the world and develop a design-thinking mindset to solve problems. We support the core academic framework with daily instruction in a world language, state-of-the-art technology and a strong commitment to mobile learning. GEMS World Academy Chicago is part of the global GEMS Education network of schools, which has been preparing students for success at the world's finest colleges and universities for more than 60 years.

GEMS Upper School

In 2019, our innovative Upper School opens, completing our preschool-through-grade-12 campus. The building includes fully equipped “makerspaces” and science labs; a two-level library that rivals collegiate offerings; a performing-arts auditorium that can be configured for multiple uses; a full-size gymnasium and a rooftop common area. The design of the school brings natural light into the learning spaces and provides dramatic views of downtown Chicago and Lake Michigan, establishing a sense of place that echoes one of the key tenets of our approach: The entire city of Chicago is our classroom.

We invite you to learn more about GEMS Chicago by registering for an upcoming admissions event. We are enrolling now in preschool through grade 11 for the 2019-2020 school year.
