Olympic hockey is underway! Unfortunately, the 10-hour time difference makes it difficult to join your fellow Americans for some international puck. You’ve probably never tried to visit a sports bar at 6:30 am—that’s when a big game between the USA men’s team and Russia starts on Saturday—so rest assured that, at that hour, most places are closed.
But you know a city with hundreds of bars and a thirst for sports would never leave you completely high and dry. In fact, several places are planning on showing the game live—and serving drinks. Here are a few options:
The Globe Pub
The Globe Pub traditionally opens early for English Premier League soccer. This winter, it’s giving Olympic hockey the same treatment. Get there at sunrise on Saturday for a barstool and a beverage.
1934 W. Irving Park Rd., North Center, 773-871-3757
The Local Chicago
Normal people don’t usually start boozin’ at daybreak. They usually start eating. If your hunger outweighs your thirst, then stop in this Gold Coast spot for the rare breakfast-hockey combo.
198 E. Delaware Pl., Gold Coast, 312-280-8887
Located at the bottom of the Radisson downtown, this Italian restaurant has a television and opens in time for USA-Russia. But this ain’t a sports bar—the game will probably be on politely in the background.
221 N. Columbus Dr., Loop, 312-477-0234
JW Marriott Chicago
The lobby lounge serves up breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks. This weekend, it’ll serve up Olympic hockey as well.
151 W. Adams St., Loop, 312-660-8200
Diag Bar and Grill
Doors open at 6:00 a.m. here. Don’t be late!
2856 N. Southport Ave., Lake View, 773-404-8400
