Wrekmeister Harmonies: A Cemetery

Chicago multi-media artist J.R. Robinson (above) will celebrate the release of his new Thrill Jockey album You've Always Meant So Much To Me by performing it at a cemetery. Yes, a cemetery—an appropriate spot for the funereal doom and earth-shaking compositions that holster the album. The elite musicians of Chicago’s metal and experimental community, including Nachtmystium’s Sanford Parker Robinson and Yakuza’s Bruce Lamont, provide sonic support. The cinematic overludes and accompanying visual projections should also stir up something extraordinary. Chicago band Acteurs (Disappears’ Brian Case and White/Light’s Jeremy Lemos) gets things started.

Huey Lewis & The News: The Beach

At Montrose Harbor this month, legendary blues rock troubadours Huey Lewis and the News will play—on the beach, in a special 30th anniversary show. "The Power of Love." "The Heart of Rock & Roll." "If This Is It." As if an evening on the sand with those 1980s pop jewels isn't reason enough to go, proceeds benefit the Leukemia Lymphoma Society.

The Plain White T’s: The Zoo

The folks behind “Hey There Delilah,” the forlorn ballad that laid siege to radio in 2007, perfom at “Jammin’ at the Zoo” this month at Lincoln Park Zoo. Chicago super group Super Happy Fun Club (featuring members of Treaty of Paris and Lucky Boys Confusion) opens.

The Zombies: Anywhere at all! 

The Zombies got started just over 50 years ago, had a heyday in the 1960s, and then split up, staying on rock's fringes after that. But making a permanent mark in music history wasn't enough—the group reunited in the 1990s (and split up and reunited a few times more). The newest version of the Zombies released Breathe Out, Breathe In in 2011 and has been touring for the past few years.
