Now that we’ve installed outdoor speakers and a great retro fan (The Air King—yes, he is the ruler of our cool air!) on our deck, I’ve been thinking that a lamp would complete the picture. Candles are all well and good, but one can hardly read by them. Then lo and behold, I receive an email about Linda Allen’s pretty, battery-operated outdoor lamps. Apparently my wish is Allen’s demand! In addition to designing the lamps, the clever Allen invented the battery and bulb so they can be used anywhere (say, near a tub, without fear of being electrocuted. They are water resistant with the use of a rubber socket cover). See (and order) her lamps at David Sutherland in the Merchandise Mart.
