This shipshape, sleepover-ready lower-level bedroom in a Lake Geneva vacation retreat was designed to accommodate the owners’ three young daughters, and some very lucky visiting friends. In keeping with the Nantucket vibe of the rest of the house, designer Tracy Hickman installed tongue-and-groove paneling and used kid-resistant outdoor fabrics throughout. Washable coverlets are from Bedside Manor; curtains (open-weave sheer outdoor fabric from Perennials) can be pulled for privacy. Waterworks’ wall-hugging indoor/outdoor light fixtures add a nautical element (and cages over the bulbs help prevent the burning of young fingers). Hickman reports that the room is a great success. Perhaps too great. “The parents have sort of been fighting over the bunks, because each bed has its own TV built into the wall at its foot,” she says.
