In the mood for an elegant evening of formal attire, dancing, and iconic Chicago architecture? (That was rhetorical.) Luckily for your weekend, on Friday, the Benjamin Marshall Society—named for the architect of the storied Drake Hotel, Blackstone Hotel, and 999 North Lake Shore Drive—is hosting a black-tie gala in honor of the centennial anniversary of the East Lake Shore Drive District. Some 100 years ago, Benjamin Marshall initiated plans to turn East Lake Shore Drive from what was essentially swampland into the luxury residential and hotel district it is today. Shown here is room in a gorgeous condo in a BM-designed building that was featured in our magazine. The event, which (appropriately) takes place at The Drake, will include cocktails, dinner, live music, an auction from Sotheby’s Midwest, and the presentation of The Benjamin Marshall Award to the Polish government for the renovation of the Polish consulate, which was originally designed by Marshall. CBS’s Walter Jacobson will emcee and several members of Polish royalty will be in attendance. Tickets are $250; call 312-932-4309 or email marshallgala@yahoo.com
