While leafing through the latest issue of Martha Stewart Living, I saw a story about a Chicago-based artist who makes beautiful quilts. Her name is Sarah Nishiura and her mother taught her how to quilt when she was 10 years old. When Nishiura was in her 20s, she started making quilts for friends who were having babies, but didn’t intend for it to become her main form of artwork (she was mostly a painter). She soon fell in love with the technique and history of quilt-making, and it’s now what she spends most of her time doing. Interested in learning her craft? She teaches quilting at the Hyde Park Art Center and Lill Street. But if you’d rather just own one of her masterpieces, they are for sale at Studio Koto Koto and Ashton Road.
