Look outside. Now, close your eyes and imagine yourself in a flower-filled paradise. Would you believe us if we said you could be there without leaving the city?

You can if you check out the more than 20 gardens at the Chicago Flower & Garden Show, which starts Saturday on Navy Pier. The theme this year is the Art of Gardening, and befittingly, members of the American Institute of Floral Designers are making one-of-a-kind arrangements inspired by works of fine art, from Baroque to Impressionist to Pop. Other new treats include a rare U.S. exhibition of Ecuadorian roses and a seminar from ABC 7’s meteorologist Mike Caplan on photographing gardens and flowers.

This show is happening in Chicago, so there are going to be lots of tips on urban gardening, such as how to plant in window boxes and ways to make the most of container gardening. Also find culinary demos by Mariano’s Fresh Market, table settings by local florists, and kids activities. The show runs at Navy Pier’s Festival Halls A and B through Sunday, March 17, so if you can’t go this weekend, you always have next. Hey, it’s either this or book a last-minute flight to Hawaii to get your mid-winter floral fix.
